While finding pure "native silver" is rare, occasionally nuggets were discovered in the mines surrounding Aspen.

The nugget shown here in 3 pieces is believed to be the largest nugget of pure silver ever mined, weighing in at 2,350 lbs.

Ironically, while located in 1893, this nugget was not removed from the Smuggler Mine until 1894, one year after the crash of the silver market.
